This course has been a very positive experience for me. I have taken away a lot of valuable learning and collaborative experiences. When I think about using the Data Action Model by Venables I was reminded of similar concepts I already use in my data planning and then acquired some new strategies throughout the Data meetings we had within our groups. Throughout the Data meetings I was stretched in the various rolls we had to participate in. Whenever I was the facilitator it forced me to take on a more leadership role then when I was a note taker which helped me to pay close attention to what others were saying and the input they gave. Last the time keeper role help remind me the importance of staying on topic as it is easy to get distracted and how it's important to value everyones time.
One thing I really have enjoyed throughout this process so far is that every corse I take in this degree I learn how to use technology for instruction in a new way. This course helped stretch me when using skype or other communication apps to collaborate with team members. I am not always a fan of not using face to face for collaborative meetings but I learned quickly you can achieve a very similar result through the use of these convenient technologies that helps to adapt to everyones schedule. I also became more familiar with creating a blog and updating my class website, as well as using presentation models to help complement a speaker when sharing on a specific content.
Diggo was a new website that I have never used before but I enjoyed having access to so many resources at the click of a button. One of the aspects I enjoyed the most in the group we were in was that all of the previous students who took this courses work were still available to view and collaborate on. It's almost like a review page as well because you can see how others viewed and took the information, helping you to decide if it was a valuable tool or resource.
In looking forward to the future due to the nature of the program that I teach I feel as if I will always be surrounded by data. This course however has taught me to look at all this data I take on a daily basis more discreetly and to collaborate with others to see if they can see any trends I might be missing. I will defiantly make a point of applying the strategies I have learned in this course as I meet with my team members when we collaborate about our data. I think that I will now be taking more of a leadership roll in this as I have gotten to practice this over the duration of this course. I feel more comfortable and confident taking the lead in comparing the data and helping come up with ways to bridge the instructional and learning gaps. I am excited to also help incorporate different technologies such as presentation models or sites like Diggo that we can use to help organize our thoughts and gather resources that will help use look at the data differently.
In closing I realize how important it is to plan review and re-review the data you are using to help shape students scores or in my case student behaviors. Creating a plan where you focus on one aspect at a time throughout your meetings will allow you to fully break apart and find where the barriers are in the learning and instructional gaps that exist allowing you to make the correct changes to alter or increase student performance.
