This week for our implementation meeting 2, I was the time keeper. I enjoyed having this role this week as it gave me an opportunity to engage in conversation without having to worry about taking in depth notes or facilitate. Our group is really good about honoring each-others time so it made it easy for me to help us end the meeting at the designated time we agreed upon. One of the strengths from this meeting was my background knowledge in the article that we were discussing. We had chosen an article about guided reading and reading interventions. Even though we all teach middle school I have the flexibility to use a lot of the strategies that are highlighted in the article. I was able to relate to many of them as we discussed our findings. Another strength I would like to highlight would be the interventions I have already started to implement with my students. These interventions are already proving to be making drastic changes in the students behavior. I was able to share this in the meeting and get some great feedback from my colleagues. Last a consistent struggle I still find is the lack of connection I have to the Gen Ed environment that the other 2 members of my team engage in. However as the weeks go on I am finding I am able to relate through my higher learners and their lower learners, finding commonalities and commenting on them. It was really neat commenting on a shared article that we all had read and found interesting.
During Data Meeting #4 I was the recorder. When it comes to contributing to data meetings or providing individuals with feedback I really enjoy to talk about it. So the position for recorder can often pose a challenge for me because I have to remember to highlight what each member is discussing. Therefore can often cause me to miss opportunities to chime in when normally I would have liked to due to my attention being on taking notes. I was also in-charge of creating the presentation which I really enjoyed. It took a while but it really allowed me to reflect on our entire meeting as a whole rather than just reviewing my notes. I am working on trying to prioritize my time a little better it can still be difficult for me to wait to do certain things for the class because we have to meet first however this is defiantly an area where I am growing and learning. And a strength was defiantly creating the presentation I was very pleased with how it turned out and I feel more comfortable now sharing on screencast using my voice over.My role for Data meeting number 3 was time keeper. I feel like this role is the least exciting of the three different roles. I also felt as if I wasn't contributing as much by having this role. I of course participated and contributed to the discussion but unlike the facilitator who is in-charge of leading the meeting and the recorder who supplies us with great reflective notes, the time keeper just makes sure we are sticking to our time line for how long the meeting will me. Needless to say I am looking forward to next week where I will be the recorder.
Some of my strengths this week included my plan of action. I was able to help set up our google share document and get a feel for the different SMART goals our group was aiming for. I also felt like a strength of mine each week is an encourager. I am able to help encourage my team mates with the data they are bringing and their additional artifacts or teaching styles by pointing out positive things during the meeting and offering some constructive criticism. One area that I can continue to grow in is to be more prepared. I feel like sometimes it is difficult to be fully prepared for these meetings because some of the information and items you are commenting on from your peers you are not able to see until the day of the meeting. I want to make sure that I am able to offer valid points and helpful tips on the different gaps and goals I see moving forward. So this week I am challenging myself to be even more prepared for meeting #4 as we really start to press into helpful resources and our SMART goals. Our First Data meeting was on 9/23 I was the Recorder and we took time to go over the current data of each group member. The data that was presented at the meeting was as follows.
Our group is very diversified when it comes to the actual data we are looking at. All members in our group serve students with special needs in different environments. One member works with ESOL students the other has special Ed students in General Ed and I work with Special Ed students in a self contained. Therefore even though the data we brought to our first meeting was totally different we were all able to offer some great feedback and insight into the trends we saw. We were also able to come up with some great exploratory questions one in-particular is: How do we implement a variety of instructional strategies to cover the curriculum and meet students needs all while putting our student's "universal needs" first? I feel like my strengths from the first meeting came from my actual Data. I was able to provide a years worth of behavior data making it very detailed when we all looked and discussed students progress and struggle. I was able to explain the ups and downs of the year and why I thought certain trends were happening. However when looking at the other 2 group members data I felt very lost at first as they were more standardized testing focused. Plus due to the fact that Our students take alternative testing It was a challenge for me at first to understand what I was looking at. I Also noticed after some discussion when I was looking at my own data I Could do an even more thrall job at taking more of a time based data to record the duration of the behaviors so that I could measure not only the frequency but the duration as well. Furthermore making sure that we are not only decreasing the amount of times we are seeing the undesired behavior but how long the behavior is lasting as well. Our second meeting was on 9/30 where each of us brought some additional artifacts to help support the data we brought to meeting #1. We were able to determine the Instructional and learning gaps for each of the artifacts and each member was able to comment on whether the artifacts were beneficial to helping see the direction in which each member needed to take their data. During this meeting I felt like my strength was again in the Data I brought to the meeting. This time it was additional data and our artifact tracking sheet. The additional data I brought was one of my strategies that I had implemented and the other was ABC data. I was able to share a new way with my teammates on how to take very thrall data when tracking a student over a period of time. As well as looking at not only how often the behavior is occurring but what is happening before, during, and after the incident when it happens. My weekness this week was looking at whether the artifact item was a LG or IG. It was challenging for me sometimes to determine whether it was an instructional gap because of something I could improve on or a learning gap.I think as an Educator I want to make sure that my students are always receiving the best instruction that I could give them. So to think that it might be more of a learning gap than instructional provides a harder challenge for me not being able to do a quick fix to my strategies or direct instruction. Both meetings have been a great start into breaking down our own data and getting insight into areas we might have not originally looked into. I look forward to our next meeting as we continue to plan and strategize how we are going to move forward with the data and what that means for our instruction when it comes to the benefit of the student. |
