3 most common barriers to technology
- Digital divide- this is the most common barrier in technology. students might know how to navigate around a computer but might only have access to one while they are attending school. One way to help these student is by having the assignments that are to be completed on the computer assigned in class, and saving the work that does not need the use of a computer to be sent home.
- Another huge barrier can be cost- many schools have giant computer labs with a plethora of computers and each classroom has a minimum of 7 computers all for student use. Some schools even have the finances to give each student his or her own I pad. But what about the low income or poverty schools who are using the computers that these new school have thrown out. If schools dont have the finances for these new technology tools, unfortunately the students dont receive access. There is hope, one way is to receive state funding through grant programs or raising money through fundraisers.
- The last barrier is teacher vs student technology competency- most students today have already been playing with their parents i phones since they were 3 years old. Many teachers who have been teaching for 30 plus years are just now getting educated on how to use many of these tools. As a teacher if you are not a head of your students you are already providing them a disservice. Its important to be knowledgeable in this area and their are many classes offered inn order to help bring you up to date.
